Safari Patrick Kaferefende is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo. When he was sixteen a group of men came to his father’s home to kill his family. He was the only one that survived. Over the next many years he moved a lot, mostly in and around a refugee camp in the area of Nairobi in Kenya. He came to Oakland in July of 2015. With the help of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) he is finding a place for himself in the U.S. while at the same time trying to figure out his life. He is a creative, entrepreneurial young person with a great heart and an enormous appreciation of life here.
